Makgopa On Being Snubbed By Broos For Bafana

Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa has opened up about his feelings on being overlooked by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

The Buccaneers centre-forward was once a crucial part of the national team, leading the line as Bafana Bafana’s primary striker in the 2024 AFCON held in Ivory Coast.

He started all seven games that Bafana played in the tournament, scoring a crucial goal when they won 2-0, eliminating Morocco in the Round of 16.

In total, Makgopa has made 18 caps for Bafana, netting four goals and providing one assist.

He has stated that being overlooked on multiple occasions has served as an eye-opener, motivating him to put more effort and fight to reclaim his place in the squad.

“Obvious, I just have to work hard to go back to the national team,” said Makgopa.

“I think maybe it’s an eye opener so that I can keep working hard or something.”

At club level, Makgopa has played six matches in all competitions – four in the Betway Premiership and one in the MTN8 and hasn’t found the back of the net this season.
