Mayo On Parents’ Reaction Upon Joining Chiefs

New Kaizer Chiefs striker Khanyisa Mayo says breaking the news to his parents about fulfilling his lifelong ambition to play for Amakhosi left them with pure joy.

Mayo, 27, put pen-to-paper on a season-long loan from Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad recently becoming the club’s 11th signing and joining just a few others who have followed in their fathers’ footsteps in donning the famous gold and black.

“The first person I called was my mother, who was sitting with my father, and they both jumped for joy and celebrated that I would be joining my father in continuing the legacy of the Club,” he told the club’s website.

“The fact that he came before me adds a bit of pressure for me, but it’s something I grew up with, so I’m used to it.”

The former Cape Town City frontman also had a message for the Khosi faithful about how he hopes to contribute this term.

“My aim is for the fans to have a wonderful season with me involved in the team,” he added.

“You can expect my best efforts to score goals for the team and work hard to help the Club deliver success for our amazing supporters, creating unforgettable memories. Amakhosi 4 Life!”
