Ndlondlo Opens Up on Pirates Stint

Marumo Gallants midfielder Phillip Ndlondlo has opened up on his stint at Orlando Pirates after departing the club.

The 30-year-old ended his three-year tenure with the Buccaneers when he parted ways with the club at the end of last season.

After leaving Pirates, he reunited with Bahlabane Ba Ntwa for a second stint, having turned out for them previously during the 2021/2022 campaign.

Ndlondlo says he believes he served his time well at Pirates, winning five trophies with the club during his time there.

After struggling with game time in his last season with the club, he stated that it didn’t bother him that much, understanding that the then-new players were getting opportunities ahead of him.

“Obviously, l’ve grown to the person that I am today with the experience that I got from the club. I feel that it was a great stint for me at Pirates. I served my time well. When my brother asks me how I feel about leaving Pirates, I tell him that I feel like I played my part,” Ndlondlo told iDiski Times.

“For me to spend three years there without getting loaned out, I feel that I served my time well, giving my all and representing the club well. With the opportunity that I got, I grabbed it with both hands.

“It was unfortunate that in the last year of my time there, I didn’t play as much as I did when I got there. But I understood the dynamics of football, that’s how they are.

“Obviously, there were new players in the team and they were also getting their chances to play. But the most important thing is the good attitude you have towards the club, whether things are going well or bad for you, because that takes you a long way.

“You mustn’t think everything is going to be good at all times; you must bear in mind that there are times where things won’t go well. The most important thing is how you pick yourself up, how you treat yourself and other people.

“So, I think for me, I enjoyed my time at Pirates, I had a great time there, playing five cup finals, which is something great that I will always cherish. I played semi-finals of the [CAF] Champions League, which is great.

“I have so much experience from that tournament as well; we were unfortunate not to go to the final. With everything that I experienced at Pirates, I’m so grateful about the opportunity, and I’ll forever be grateful for that opportunity.”
