Maema Breaks Silence On Surprise Simba Move

Simba SC midfielder Neo Maema has admitted that Champions League football was a major draw card in his surprise move to the Tanzanian giants.

The 29-year-old joined the Reds of Msimbazi in August this year bringing to an end four years of a trophy laden career at Chloorkop where he made 120 appearances, scoring 13 goals, with 14 assists.

The Bafana Bafana international, who led Molefi Ntseki’s charges out at the CHAN tournament, has since broken his silence on how his move to the Tanzanian giants came about upon his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns.

“It comes with a lot of hard work that’s why I chose to leave the country to make sure that I put myself in a good position in my career and in my life,” he said on Game On With Thabiso Mosia.

“We [with Fadlu Davids] spoke quite a bit. It was not just with him but my agent. We spoke about the possibility of going there and explained to me how it is.

“Like I said before, the Champions League thing was the one that threw me first. I still want to play Champions League and if you have to play, you have to play with teams that are actually competing there, so that’s basically how it came about.

On how Davids convinced him to link up in the Tanzania Premier League before the former left Simba SC to return to Raja Athletic Club in Morocco.

“It wasn’t difficult for me because I knew before. There was a time he wanted me as a player when he was still coaching in South Africa,” he added.

“Me and him we constantly just spoke. He is a good coach and he knows how to bring the best out of players.”
