Broos on ‘Enormous Evolution’ of Nkota

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has spoken glowingly of Al-Ettifaq winger Mohau Nkota, who’s gradually becoming a big part of his squad.

Nkota made the final cut to the 23-man squad that will take on Zimbabwe and Rwanda in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers scheduled for the next two weeks.

The 20-year-old left-footer only made his Bafana debut in June, featuring in the goalless international friendly match against Tanzania.

Nkota opened his scoring account for the national team last month, netting his first goal in the 3−0 victory over Lesotho at Free State Stadium. He followed that up with an impressive display against Nigeria at the same venue.

Broos lauded Nkota for delivering an incredible, surprising performance against a physically dominant Nigerian side. He praised the player’s fight on the field and his ability to overcome the disadvantage of his short height.

“Honestly, he surprised me against Nigeria, I was a little bit afraid when you see that [Calvin] Bassey on the left-back position and you look at [small] Mohau,” Broos said on SABC Sport.

“But he’s a fantastic, he works a lot on the pitch. He’s not lazy, not at all, he’s technically good and quick.

“It also seems like he doesn’t have a disadvantage of his [short] height, he is strong also, you don’t push him away. He’s made enormous evolution since he was promoted at Pirates. Every week, he has become better and better.”
