Barker On Ntwari Situation At Chiefs

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker believes that a player from his club wouldn’t reject a substitution like Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Fiecre Ntwari.

Ntwari started his first domestic match this season against Stellenbosch in the Carling Knockout Cup. The Rwandan international played a good game throughout, keeping a clean sheet for 120 minutes.

When it came close to penalties, Chiefs’ technical team wanted to substitute him for Bruce Bvuma but the former TS Galaxy goalkeeper refused to be taken off.

Even though he did save the first penalty in the shootout, Amakhosi lost and got knocked out of the competition.

Barker was asked by the media how he would respond in that situation as a coach and the veteran coach made it clear that he doesn’t think it would happen to his club.

“A difficult question. I can’t really answer because I don’t think a player from our club would do that,” Barker told the media.

Stellenbosch return to action on 18 October when they will face Angolan side 15 de Agosto in the CAF Confederation Cup.
