Kadodia Addresses Reported Hunt-Middendorp Work Strife

Durban City chairman Farouk Kadodia has addressed the reported work strife between club’s head coach Gavin Hunt and departed technical director Ernst Middendorp.

Last week, Kadodia confirmed to this website that former Kaizer Chiefs coach Middendorp departed the KZN club because his three-month contract had reached its end.

However, as previously reported, Middendorp’s exit was said to have stemmed from differences he had with head coach Gavin Hunt.

Kadodia refuted the claims, stating that Middendorp understood he would not be involved in the responsibilities of the head coach’s job.

“I think the important thing that we need to understand from the outset is that coach Ernst, he was not gonna go on the way of the head coach,” said Kadodia.

“There was not anything, fears or any clashes of that sort. Ernst believed that there’s no space of any work right now unless the team was extending its academy.

“He helped us also with Diski team in assembling the team, he was there every day in training. He gave his input and that was part of what he was here for.”

Kadodia stated that Middendorp provided great input in rebuilding the first team and assembling the reserve team after City’s promotion to the Betway Premiership.

“This was the first season that we had a technical director, we were new in the PSL,” he added.

“We just wanted to make sure that we don’t bring players here that don’t add value.

“So, his mandate was to screen every player that came to the team, be close with myself and then we refer them to the head coach.”
