Parker Opens Up on Chiefs Exit

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker says he felt blindsided on his exit after equipping himself to give back to the club but never heard from them.

Parker spent almost a decade at Naturena becoming their all-time top goal scorer with 61 goals during his tenure. The Galaxy assistant coach told Smash Sports Podcast about the timing of the news, how everything was unexpected after he asked the club at the end of his last season what their plans with him were.

The former Bafana Bafana striker said he had also planned to go on holiday and wanted to make the right financial decisions before the vacation and was given assurance that he is safe.

‘Die Hond’ further revealed how he kept trying to find solutions until a point he was directed to speak to coach Molefi Ntseki and never heard from the club after that meeting.

“I was just told, this is it like, okay, but you said I was safe,” said Parker.

“You said I should go on holiday. I could have saved money. Now I don’t have a job and from here on, whichever lower club I’m going to go to, it’s going to be a big chop in terms of salary. I could have saved something. I said to myself I want to make an appointment with the chairman just to thank the chairman for what he has done in my life.

“And they said, okay, it’s fine you can make an appointment and see if the chairman can decide otherwise. Everyone sat there in the meeting, the management sat there. What pains me more is the technical staff didn’t sit there in that meeting.

“I made an appointment to see the chairman and I thanked the chairman for how Kaizer Chiefs impacted my family’s life positively, and what a great time I had and all of that. And I laid everything out with the Chairman. I did reiterate it again to the chairman that I would love to give back to the club in whatever capacity because I have equipped myself. And I was told to say I will get a call within the next month. I didn’t get a call. The following month, I pushed again it was in June. The following month, in July, I pushed again. Then eventually they said, I must come see Coach Molefi Ntseki.

“I saw Coach Molefi Ntseki. He sat and listened to me. I told him the same story then he took note said all right we will see and then that was it. Then I kept calling, I kept probing and then no answer, no nothing. I said, okay, it’s fine let me see now elsewhere where I can go to because now it’s been two months I haven’t received a salary or so.

“Savings, I blew it up in the holiday and also from my savings, I’m just taking there’s nothing is coming in.”
