Lupopo Coach – I Was Surprised By Ouaddou’s Decision

FC Saint Eloi Lupopo head coach Guy Bukasa has revealed Abdeslam Ouaddou’s team selection decision that left him surprised.

The Sea Robbers were knocked out of the CAF Champions League by DRC outfit, failing to make it to the group stages. They were beaten 5-4 on penalties after a 3-3 aggregate draw.

Speaking after the match, Bukasa said he was surprised somewhat that Ouaddou started the match without an out-and-out striker.

The two striking options, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Yanela Mbuthuma, were substitutes. Mbuthuma was later subbed in during the second half and scored the second goal.

“Honestly, yes [I was surprised], but it didn’t change much things in their organisation,” said Bukasa.

“It was the same, they kept the ball, they tried to go on the sides and to come inside just to try keep the space close to them.

“And then what they did well is to try and kick from far. When they decide to kick from far, they found some solutions. We knew that they would continue to keep the ball, [Oswin] Appollis, [Tshepang] Moremi, the same things.

“So, when they changed the strategy from kicking from far, it was difficult. But I was surprised by that decision to play without a real number nine.”
