MC Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena has lauded the effort put in by the club to reach the CAF Champions League group stages despite the absence of their fans.
Mokwena’s side reached the CAF Champions League group stages for the second successive season after eliminating Liberian champions FC Fassell 3-0 on aggregate and later eliminated Cameroon champions FC Colombe on away goal rule.
The Algerian champions did all this without their supporters after they were banned at the beginning of the season following the trouble they caused in last season’s CAFCL clash against South African giants Orlando Pirates in the quarterfinals.
Mokwena is under pressure to do better than the previous coach in the CAFCL after MC Alger were knocked out in the quarterfinals last season. The former Wydad AC head coach congratulated the club and stated that it was not easy.
“We played the champions of Liberia, the champions of Cameroon without the support of our fans in our stadium is a very big achievement for the club,” Mokwena told the media.
“It’s not easy. Congratulations to the football club, congratulations to the players, congratulations to the president this one is for him and congratulations to the staff especially our medical staff they are working very hard, so this is a great team achievement.”
