Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has questioned the exclusion of Wydad AC midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch from the Bafana Bafana squad.
Lots of questions have been thrown at the Bafana head coach Hugo Broos after on-form Lorch was excluded from the Bafana Bafana squad that will face Zambia in the international friendly a month before AFCON in Morocco.
Lorch has been in form since completing a move from Mamelodi Sundowns to Wydad. This season alone he has been carrying the Red Castle side, netting five goals and contributing with one assist in eight games.
Speaking with Andile Ncube on the DNA podcast, Khumalo said he wanted to understand why Lorch is not included in the squad that will face Chipolopolo, at least to see what he can offer Bafana. The former Orlando Pirates winger is facing stiff competition on the right and left wings with Oswin Appollis, Relebohile Mofokeng, Tshepang Moremi, and Mohau Nkota.
“Lorch it’s questionable, looking at him let’s be honest. He might have gone through a lot of hiccups in his career but here he is outside South Africa, everybody is raving about him. I would’ve expected a call-up for this game, just to see. This wouldn’t be the first call-up for the national team,” Khumalo told Ncube on the DNA podcast.
“Based on the performance and experience that he has gained playing against the big teams. I think he would’ve come in handy for us. If that team were using him with the kind of attitude they have if you’re a coach you can’t deliver you are gone, if you are a player, you can’t deliver you are gone but I am looking at the clips everybody is celebrating him.
“We are not saying because they embrace him, he has to be in the squad, but the game is the teacher.”
