Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed the reason behind Siyabonga Ngezana’s exclusion from the squad that faced Zambia.
South Africa cruised to a 3-1 victory over Chipolopolo in Saturday’s international friendly at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
This match served as preparation for AFCON set to be held in Morocco next month with both teams gearing up to participate in the tournament.
Broos said he excluded a few players to assess different options, pointing to Siyabonga Ngezana’s omission as an example.
For this match, he paired Nkosinathi Sibisi with Mbekezeli Mbokazi in central defence, while Thabo Moloisane and Khulumani Ndamane started on the bench.
“There are players who were not here like Ngezana, I didn’t call him up because I wanted to give chances to other players,” said Broos.
“I wanted to see if we can use them for future and for AFCON. So, I think we can be happy with what we saw today [Saturday]. We can be confident for what is coming.
“It will be much more difficult than the game of today but we will be better also in a month.
“We will try to do what we did the last time and maybe even better if it’s possible. But then it’s AFCON, it’s something that’s not easy.
“It will be so intense because every team wants to show how good they are even the smallest teams. But I’m confident that South Africa will be ready.”
