Doc Reacts To Being Inducted Into SA Hall Of Fame

South African football legend Doctor Khumalo has expressed gratitude to his late parents, sister and South Africans at large after being inducted into the SA Hall Of Fame.

‘Mdokies’ was among several former football greats who were bestowed with the honourary award on Friday evening for their contribution to South African football alongside the likes of Mark Fish, the late Phil Masinga and AFCON-winning 1996 late coach Clive Barker as well as Aaron Mokoena and Janine Van Wyk.

The former Amakhosi captain made over 400 appearances in the gold and black with a further 50 in national team colours forming part of the famous class of 1996 that won the AFCON on home soil.

Speaking to Andile Ncube on Soccerzone, an emotional Khumalo took time to thank those that helped shape his career as a footballer including the naysayers.

“Firstly, I must thank my late parents and my sister Fikile for the guidance and the support they showed, and they gave it to me,” he said.

“And I would be failing if I don’t acknowledge the South Africans all that have played a major role in supporting and giving me the courage, criticizing and all that.

“This one it actually goes to the South Africans to say, ‘Thank You very much.’ This accolade, Hall of Fame it wouldn’t be possible without them.

“So, thank you Mzansi and I just hope and wish that one day one of the boys [current players] will be inducted into this Hall Of Fame.”
