Kaizer Chiefs have announced their starting line-up ahead of this afternoon’s must-win CAF Confederation Cup encounter against Zamalek SC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Chiefs are currently leaking their wounds following their narrow 2-1 defeat last weekend in Egypt against Al-Masry. Following Al-Masry’s win yesterday in Zambia against Zesco United, Amakhosi knows anything less than a win this afternoon won’t be enough to increase their chances of a group stage progression.
Chiefs occupy position three with no points while the White Knights are above them in second spot after winning their opening game against Zesco United.
This is the first time these two teams face each other in over 32 years. In the second round of the 1993 African Cup of Champions Clubs, Chiefs won the first leg 2-1 at FNB Stadium courtesy of strikes from Lucas Radebe and Eric September, though they would go on to lose 1-0 in Cairo in the return leg to crash out of the competition after a 2-2 aggregate score.
Here’s how both sides lineup:
Chiefs Starting XI:Â Petersen (c), Kwinika, Mthethwa, Maboe, Shabalala, Sirino, Mmodi, Miguel, Solomons, Cross, Ighodaro
Subs: Bvuma, Monyane, Ngcobo, Velebayi, Matlou, Msimango, Vilakazi, Mako, Da Silva
Zamalek Starting XI: Daader, Gaber, Abdeslalam, Mohamed, Mahmoud, Elhamaed, Kotb, Attia, Jaziri, Sacalumbo, Bezera
Subs: Badawy, Bentayg, Roweidy, Gafaar, Kaied, Maali, Dabbagh, Kamal, Ochieng
