Khanye Singles Out Chiefs Star In Gutsy Draw

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has hailed Lebohang Maboe’s impact after they rallied back from a goal down to earn a draw in their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Zamalek.

The Glamour Boys had gone behind as early as the third minute through Seifeddine Jaziri’s strike and had to wait till deep in stoppage time as Dillan Solomons’ cross saw its way into the net which was awarded as an own goal from Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhy.

Maboe was handed his first start on the afternoon and did not disappoint as he dictated terms in the middle of the park which allowed the home side to strike a balance and put their opposition under pressure much to Khanye’s praise.

“Maboe, Chiefs caught a big fish there,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.

“Defensive midfield also playmaking. The reason why it looked like there was balance in the second half, that boy is good.

“This guy was able to loop balls forward behind the Zamalek defence to cause trouble between the goalkeeper and the defence with the defenders clueless on what to do.

“Well done do Maboe for his arrival. He played very well. I don’t know why they benched him.

“He needs a partner, a number 10 that’s very smart.

“Chiefs need to get someone who plays there. I think he’s short on an assistant.”
