Khune – Pirates Star Reminds Me Of Nkatha

Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune says Evidence Makgopa reminds him of former Kaizer Chiefs striker Kingston Nkatha.

Khune played alongside the Zimbabwean forward at Chiefs between 2012 and 2015 where the latter scored 16 goals in 69 appearances.

Nkatha wasn’t very popular with the Amakhosi fans base for his lack of a killer instinct in front of goal. Meanwhile, Makgopa who has become an integral part of Orlando Pirates and Bafana’s attack, sometimes comes under criticism for the same reasons.

However, Khune believes that the two strikers may not be deadly in the box but one thing they have in common, which is important for the teams they play for, is that they are able to draw out defenders and create space for fellow attackers to finish the job of scoring.

“Do you know who he [Makgopa] reminds me of? Kingston Nkatha,” said Khune on SABC 2.

“Kaizer Chiefs fans used to be on his back. They don’t know how much and how important he was to us. He used to make defenders tired, make those runs.

“I used to give him those balls behind the defence, make them run and in the 60th minute they substitute him and put in [Lehlohonolo] Majoro.

“Majoro comes in and he taps in. So, he creates space and makes it simple, with those runs he takes two away, he creates space for the person coming so that was Kingston’s role and that’s Makgopa’s role as we speak.”
