Angola coach Patrice Beaumelle has bemoaned dropping points in their narrow defeat to Bafana Bafana in the 2025 Group B AFCON opener on Monday.
The Palancas Negras failed to break their winless record against South Africa at the AFCON showpiece succumbing to their third defeat with two draws in five outings.

Hugo Broos’s charges took the lead through Oswin Appollis before Manuel Show pulled matters level for Beaumelle’s side. Angola took control of matters from there but saw their confidence dampened as Lyle Foster struck late to earn a 2-1 win for Mzansi.
Beaumelle believes that, despite the loss, they held themselves well against one of the continent’s top sides.
“Obviously, we are a bit sad because we lost the first game and when you start a competition, it’s always important to start with points,” Beaumelle said on #PrimeSportsWithMahlatse.
“But facing a top team in Africa, I think we did a good game when we play such a team. We made two mistakes and then we played catch up.
“The first goal we get back, and we try to contain. We tried to apply the plan that we prepared during all weeks but finally we made another mistakes.
“Congratulations for Bafana Bafana and we just have to keep your heads up because we still have two games to go.”
