Botswana head coach Morena Ramoreboli has opened up on his team’s performance at AFCON in Morocco.
The Zebras suffered defeats in all three of their group-stage matches against Senegal, Benin and DR Congo, exiting the tournament at an early stage.
It marked Botswana’s second AFCON appearance, following their maiden qualification in 2012.
Ramoreboli attributed their return to the continental stage to years of hard work and patience, adding that despite the early exit, he believes the team performed well and is now focused on building the capacity to compete with top teams at AFCON.
“I can describe it as a journey of patience, a journey of hard work,” said Ramoreboli on Radio 2000.
“Obviously whatever we have achieved to get to that stage after 12 years, one would say we had to be patient, we had to understand that while we are patient, we need to be hungry for victory.
“We had to understand that we need to work towards the level where we will be able to compete against the top in the continent.
“I think, one looking back would say, we did our best, but we also need to acknowledge the fact that football is growing in the continent.
“We always learn and I feel that we have an opportunity to grow and growing would also mean that we are able to learn ay that level.”
