Orlando Pirates came from behind to beat Durban City, while reigning DStv Diski Challenge champions Kaizer Chiefs lost another game.
The young Buccaneers remained on track to win their first DDC title after beating Durban City 2-1. The match was filled with drama, with the hosts opening the scoring after 16 minutes.
Just before the break there was a scuffle, which saw one player from each side being sent off. But Pirates adjusted better to the 10 vs 10 in the second half, with Samukelo Zikalala scoring the equalizer five minutes into the second half.
Another five minutes later, Zikalala was brought down inside the box and Tshepo Mhlambi stepped up to give the visitors the lead. Pirates managed to collect the three points and go 10 clear of Mamelodi Sundowns at the top after reaching 40 points from 16 games.
However, Masandawana were also victorious on Sunday, beating Magesi 3-0. Bennet Mokoena opened the scoring after three minutes already, before Siyabonga Mabena made it 2-0 after 2-0. Mokoena added the third in the 78th minutes as Sundowns cruised to victory to cut Pirates’ lead back to seven points.
Also on Sunday, reigning champions Chiefs lost 2-1 to Marumo Gallants, conceding a late blow in the 90th minute to collect their third loss of the campaign. The young Amakhosi are now 14 points behind leaders Pirates, albeit with a game in hand.
