Kaizer Chiefs‘ goal against Golden Arrows in their Betway Premiership clash should not have stood but rather ruled offside, according to former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani.
Amakhosi grabbed a 1-0 victory over Abafana Bes’thende at FNB Stadium in mid-week, but the biggest talking point of the match was that Aden McCarthy was in an offside position to easily tap home from a freekick.

Arrows head coach Manqoba Mnqithi was one of the people who showed displeasure with the referee’s decision to allow the goal to stand, further calling for Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Hlungwani has since delivered the verdict that the goal should have been ruled offside.
“If you look at it there, you can see that [Glody] Lilepo is heading the ball. When Lilepo heads the ball. McCarthy is in an offside position,” ‘The Principal’ said on Soccerzone.

“If you are in an offside position when the ball rebounds off the goalkeeper and comes to you, when you play it, you are now gaining an advantage by being in that position.
“So, flag should’ve gone up for offside, it was not raised.
“Incorrect decision!”
