Sead Ramovic’s CR Belouizdad completed the double over Gavin Hunt’s Stellenbosch FC, beating them 3-0 at DHL Stadium on Sunday.
Stellenbosch came close inside third minute when new signing Wonderboy Makhubu’s shot went wide.
CRB tested Sage Stephens for the first time in the sixth minute but he dealt with Mohamed Islam Belkhir’s attempt easily.
The Algerian side took the lead in the 18th minute after a great pass from Youcef Amine Laouafi beat all Stellies defenders and found Mohamed Ben Hamouda who made no mistake and converted.
Stellies nearly went 2-0 down before the break but CRB was denied by the post after a great header from Mohamed Ben Hamouda.
Stellenbosch came with a lot to fight into the second half, which began with lots of aggression between the sides, leading to too many stop and starts as Stellenbosch got more and more frustrated by the Algerian side.
With 16 minutes remaining, Makhubu again came close but his shot went wide as the keeper was well beaten.
Minutes later, Langelihle Phili took on defenders and set up Chumane Butsaka whose shot went just wide, as the scoreline remained 1-0.
CRB eventually doubled their lead in the 80th minute through Abdennour Belhocini’s header, which secured the three points for the Algerian side and saw them move closer to qualifying for the knockout stages.
Ramovic’s men even put the icing on the top, when Islam Abbaci made it 3-0 in the 88th minute to hand Hunt’s men a heavy defeat.
Stellenbosch now sit at the bottom of Group C with four points from four games, and now need positive results against AS Otoho and Singida Black Stars in the final two games.
