Galaxy Miss Out On Signing Zim Defender

The FIFA transfer ban has handed TS Galaxy a blow in their pursuit for defender Isheanesu Mauchi who is a free agent after his contract with Simba Bhora expired.

Galaxy’s pursuit of the Zimbabwean international has collapsed, leaving the Rockets thin at the back following the closure of the January transfer window.

The deal for the former Simba Bhora defender, who recently featured for the Warriors at AFCON, fell through primarily due to the ongoing FIFA-imposed transfer sanctions currently crippling the Mpumalanga-based outfit.

Following the departure of Bafana Bafana defender Khulumani Ndamane to Mamelodi Sundowns, Galaxy identified Mauchi as the ideal successor. The Zimbabwean was eager for a move to the Betway Premiership, despite Simba Bhora holding a one-year option on his contract, which expired in December.

While the player travelled to South Africa to finalise terms, negotiations hit a wall. Reportedly, Mauchi refused to commit to a contract without documented proof that the club’s international registration ban had been lifted, a guarantee Galaxy could not provide.

The root of Galaxy’s administrative nightmare is a dispute with Liberian player Jegbay Morris Konneh. The club was hit with a three-window registration ban on December 16, 2025, after failing to settle outstanding debts.

The financial breakdown of the crisis includes a principal debt of approximately USD 125,000 (R2.2 million). It also includes a 5% interest rate per annum, as per FIFA regulations. The ban remains active.

Despite a theoretical agreement to pay Konneh in instalments, Galaxy reportedly missed the first payment deadline last week. As per FIFA’s policy, the registration ban will only be rescinded once the funds are fully reflected in Konneh’s account.
The failure to secure Mauchi caps off a frustrating period for coach Adnan Beganovic.

Despite losing key assets like Puso Dithejane and Ndamane, the club was unable to register any new arrivals during the January window.
