Mdu On Bafana World Cup Selection Talks

Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala has opened up on potential 2026 World Cup Bafana Bafana selection.

The global showpiece is set to take place across the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July 2026.

Shabalala was among the three players named on the stand-by list for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which was held in Morocco between December and January.

The other two players on the list were Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners and Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane.

The young midfielder believes that the responsibility now lies with him to continue working hard and delivering consistent performances in the coming months.

Shabalala says he is focused on giving maximum effort at club level in order to put himself in a stronger position to be considered for selection when the 2026 World Cup squad is announced.

“The talks mean nothing, mine is to work hard and raise my hand in my club,” said Shabalala.

“I believe that one day I’ll get an opportunity to go and represent my national team.”
