Mouloudia Club d’Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena has used Pitso Mosimane as an example to believe in young talent after his side’s massive win in the CAF Champions League against Al Hilal SC.
Mokwena came through Mamelodi Sundowns academy, where he was coaching the under-19 team. The former Orlando Pirates coach was then promoted to the first team by Mosimane during his time at the club where no one knew him.
Mosimane put his trust in Mokwena, making him one of his assistants, and predicted that Mokwena would become one of the best coaches in the country and eventually surpass him.
Mokwena explained the importance of giving people a chance in life, mentioning that Mosimane had given him an opportunity.
“I think as coaches we have two responsibilities: the one is to give opportunities to kids I’ve done in my career in every club I’ve been,” Mokwena told the media.
“The only thing potential needs is an opportunity; potential could be in business, it could be as a sports administrator, it could be as a sports coach, it could be as a journalist – somebody had to give you a chance.
“I am sitting here today because coach Pitso Mosimane gave me a chance and everybody in life deserves a chance.
“And then it is our responsibility to assist those players to fulfill their potential and there’s different ways to do that but I think the kids in Mouloudia got a lot of talent.”
