Bobby Shares Views On Technical Team Decision & Future

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has insisted the club’s decision to stick with the currently technical team is paying dividends, even though he cannot confirm whether they will be there beyond this campaign.

Amakhosi are currently sitting in third place in the Betway Premiership, just five points of leaders Orlando Pirates, and are one point away from qualifying for the CAF Confederations Cup knockout stages.

There is a lot of positivity around Naturena, with Chiefs having only lost one of their last nine games and started into 2026 with five wins in six games.

Motaung insists the club is reaping the rewards of remaining patient with the current technical team and not chopping and changing everything after Nasreddine Nabi left.

“I think it’s the planning and the persistency that we keep the technical staff, and the planning this season and last season in terms of player positions,” he said during the club’s announcement of their new Carling Black Label partnership.

“And looking at the type of quality players we’ve got now. It’s not easy for some of them, some started this season, some started last season and it was not easy for them, too.

“We are not yet where we want to be in terms of scoring those goals that we need and achieving what we want to achieve.

“But if you look at the consistency of us keeping the technical staff and managing the squad as it is, it’s helping us a lot, even for the future, the generation that we got now, the young generation, they need to be given time and patience.

“But keeping the technical staff was more important for us because putting in a new coach and new technical staff then you have to make changes, you can’t make changes every season – in the middle of the season making changes again, it doesn’t give you consistency.

“I think the decision to be consistent and contain the current technical staff helped us a lot.”

Despite the positive trend, Motaung insisted he cannot be certain whether the club will continue with Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef beyond this campaign, as their future will be determined by results.

“We don’t know yet, I can’t say what happens in the future,” he continued.

“But currently, there is a reason why we are where we are it’s because of the consistency we kept and the management we have.

“In future, football is football, one never knows how the results are going. But with the vision we’ve got and the patience we’ve got – I think we’ve got a great vision and plan to bring those glory days back.”

Chiefs are back in action on Sunday when they will face Zamalek in Egypt, with a point enough to seal their spot in the CAFCC knockout stages.
