Hunt On Exclusion Of Key Players In Last CAFCC Match

Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has explained his reason behind the exclusion of key players in their CAF Confederation Cup dead rubber clash against Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars.

Stellenbosch came to this game knowing that their journey in Africa had ended after last week’s defeat in Congo Brazzaville at the hands of AS Otoho.

Hunt thus named his starting lineup with one eye on their next Betway Premiership clash against bottom of the table side Magesi FC.

The four times league winning coach explained that he didn’t want to play the likes of Devin Titus, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Wonderboy Makhubu as he was afraid that if they get injured, they might be out for a long time.

“I think we’re so short in that position [striker], I didn’t want to take a risk and play him [Wonderboy Makhubu],” Hunt told the media.

“And we lose him for Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday if you get an injury now a week or two, you gonna lose four or five games.

“So, I think these games are more important coming up than this game today, so I still want to be strong enough to win the game. But yeah, so there’s a couple of players I didn’t play.

“I didn’t want to play Devin, I didn’t want to play Mabasa, but I put them on at the end, and you saw a little bit of difference.

“They make a difference. But I didn’t want to play a lot of them. I didn’t want to play, yeah, I shouldn’t have played them. “
