Sundowns had to beat former coach Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger on the final match day of the group stages and came up with a composed 2-0 win, never leaving any doubt on the day.
However, it was only their second win during the group stages, meaning they ended up in second place behind Al Hilal. As a consequence, Sundowns were drawn against one of the other group winners – with defending champions Pyramids, record winners Al Ahly and Malian giants Stade Malien in the draw.
And the PSl champions got surprise package Stade Malien from Mali.
