Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has revealed how crunch talks with teammates helped the side achieve their best performance of the season and how they want to maintain that level.
Williams was referring to the CAF Champions League Group C decider against MC Alger where the Betway Premiership champions prevailed and progressed to the second round of the competition.
The skipper said they were not happy with how things were going and needed a moment of reflection and to listen to each other.
Sundowns face Orlando Pirates in the league at FNB Stadium on Wednesday looking to maintain that momentum and close the gap at the top.
The Bafana Bafana captain believes there is a change in attitude and energy in the side since the talks.
“Obviously we had a lot of talks over the last few weeks,” said Williams to Mamelodi Sundowns media.
“We had to reflect as a team. We were not happy with where we were as a team. There were a lot of positive talks, that’s where we all got to sit down and share our thoughts and it was good to listen to everyone.
“In this moment everyone becomes a leader and you listen and you learn and you could see the change in spirit, the change in energy just around the team around the training ground.
“So, everything has worked out in a way that we expected after having those meetings. And obviously to top it off we had a wonderful result. I think that was one of our best performances this season.
“So, we need to kick on now and keep those values seeing that we discussed those values and just respect the badge. The Mamelodi Sundowns badge is huge and comes with a lot of responsibility. We need to always make sure that we keep that high level.”
