Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Oupa Manyisa says the Soweto Derby has a pattern of being competitive when one of the sides is not on form.
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates meet in the first derby of the season at FNB Stadium on Saturday looking to bounce from losses in the Betway Premiership and the Nedbank Cup, respectively.
Amakhosi are fourth on the league log with 30 points in 16 outings, while the Buccaneers are second tied on 38 points with top-placed Mamelodi Sundowns both from 17 matches.
Manyisa spoke to iDiski Times journalist Lethabo Kganyago and said for him the fixture is always better when either side isn’t on form, however thinks this one will be a good one as there are other factors at play.
“The derby is nice when one team is on form and the other one is not on form,” Manyisa told iDiski Times.
“It’s like that. Have you noticed that when it comes to the derby and there is a game during the week, the winning team during the week will lose or they will draw?
“So when they are not on form it’s nice because each team wants to be better than the other. But when you are on form you play the game with emotions.
“But this one will be nice, players want to prove their worth and players want to go to the World Cup.”
