SAFA Make Major Announcement

The South African Football Association has made a major announcement on Monday.

Just a few days ago, SAFA announced Bafana will be based in Pachuca, Mexico during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as preparations for the showpiece are intensifying.

Bafana will also face Panama in two international friendly matches this month, first in Durban on 27 March before a rematch in Cape Town on 31 March.

On Monday, SAFA announced Standard Bank as new sponsor of all national teams – Bafana, Banyana Banyana, Amajimbos, Amajita, Basetsana, AmaGlug Glug and Bantwana – from 2026 to 2030.

“For our success to be sustainable, [we] must continue beyond Mexico, beyond USA, beyond Canada,” SAFA president Dr. Danny Jordaan stated at the Standard Bank headquarters in Rosebank as per Velile Mnyandu.

“We are looking at this as a significant moment so that the brand is sustained. And what we have to do then, is to look at the beginning of a new term, a longer term and that is what we call at SAFA ‘Vision 2030’.

“We have already planned from 2026 to 2030. You in world football, you plan in four years – from 2022 to 2026, from 2026 to 2030.

“In the plans of 2030 what is already secured is a reliable financial partner in the form of Standard Bank to walk the path with us.”

David Hodnett, CEO of Standard Bank South Africa, added: “For Standard Bank, the sponsorship is a natural extension of our commitment to South Africa. Football remains the most widely followed sport in South Africa, playing a unique role in uniting communities and inspiring national pride aligned to our purpose, ‘Africa is our home, we drive her growth’.

“Standard Bank’s partnership with SAFA builds on decades of supporting sport initiatives, from junior ranks through to national levels.

“Through this partnership, the bank is investing in the aspirations of a nation and its people, and that aligns squarely with our purpose of driving Africa’s growth.

“The people who fill those stadiums and paint the cities green and gold are our clients and they come from the communities we serve every day,” continued Hodnett, per SAFA.net.
