Chiefs ‘Robbed’ Of Legit Goal In Stellies Loss? Hlungwani Dissects

Kaizer Chiefs were wrongly denied a legitimate goal in their Betway Premiership defeat to Stellenbosch FC, according to former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani.

The Glamour Boys thought they had taken a lead just nine minutes in after Ashley Du Preez tapped into an empty net from Flavio Da Silva’s low cross.

The goal was, however, ruled offside which in its entirety changed the outcome of the match as the hosts went on to lose the clash 2-1.

Da Silva eventually opened the scoring moments later in the encounter for Amakhosi but second-half strikes from Langelihle Phili and Devin Titus saw them succumb to their second defeat of the season.

‘The Principal’ was slighlty critical of the officiating saying the hosts were denied a goal which should have stood.

“We are going to draw the line to tell whether the player is [offside],” he said on Soccerzone.

“You can see that Du Preez is in an offside position, but it is not an offence to be in an offside position.

“Let’s have a look when he [Du Preez] gets a cross. You can see that he’s behind the ball.

“Therefore the goal should have been allowed. It was not given, that’s not right.”

The Glamour Boys are looking to bounce back to winning ways later this evening when they take on Richards Bay at uMhlathuze Stadium with the clash getting underway at 19:30.
