Pirates, Downs & Chiefs Men Win Monthly Awards

Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng was named Player of the Month January/February, while Mamelodi Sundowns’ Miguel Cardoso won the Coach of the Month gong and Kaizer Chiefs’ Glody Lilepo walked away with the Goal of the Month award.

On Wednesday, the Premier Soccer League announced the monthly awards winners, with Captain Yama2k winning the Player of the Month award after being involved in six goals across six games, scoring three and setting up as many.

“Pirates forward, Relebohile Mofokeng was named Betway Premiership Player of the Month following an impressive run of form,” the PSL stated.

“After working his way back into the starting line-up, the attacker became a key figure in Pirates’ attack and ongoing title race.

“Across six matches, Mofokeng recorded three goals and as many assists, while earning three consecutive Man of the Match awards.”

Meanwhile, Cardoso beat Abdeslam Ouaddou, who had won the award twice already this season, and Gavin Hunt to the Coach of the Month title.

“Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Miguel Cardoso earns the Betway Premiership Coach of the Month award after guiding Mamelodi Sundowns to four wins from four matches, inclusive of an away victory to fellow title challengers, Orlando Pirates in February,” the statement continued.

“Cardoso edged out strong competition from Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt, who has recently brought stability to the Western Cape side since his arrival.”

Last but not least, Lilepo’s stunning strike against Marumo Gallants at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein in January earned him the Goal of the Month accolade.
