Mngqithi Reveals A Finishing Position He’s Hoping For

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has revealed the finishing position he is aiming for in the Betway Premiership this season.

Abafana Bes’thende have played an exciting brand of football under Mngqithi despite the coach admitting that many players in his squad still lack top-flight experience.

Arrows currently sit 12th on the table with 21 points from 19 matches. Despite their position, they have been one of the most attacking teams in the league, scoring the third-most goals [24] behind Orlando Pirates [31] and Mamelodi Sundowns [32].

However, their defensive struggles—especially in the first round of the campaign—have proven costly and may have prevented them from climbing higher on the standings.

Mngqithi says the squad is still young as the club continues to give opportunities to several youngsters, but he believes they still have a strong chance of finishing inside the top eight.

“This team is very young, we are trying a lot of youngsters,” said Mngqithi.

“I think in the team that played today [Wednesday against Sundowns], starting eleven, we had probably four players that were playing in the ABC Motsepe.

“We have got a team that is moving from probably the average age of 34, 33. Now we have taken the team down to closer to 22.

“I am still trying to make sure that I work on these boys. I am seeing a lot of growth. I never thought they could be where they are now.

“I see them standing a very good chance to finish in the top eight. I am being honest. Remember this day.”
