The DStv Diski Challenge title contest is set to intensify this week as Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns seek to gain the upper hand, with neither side being able to afford complacency.
Pirates have turned the UJ Soweto Campus a fortress this season they as haven’t lost at home so far and take on Golden Arrows on Saturday morning with hope of keeping their lead at the top.
Joy Manana is expected to be a key man for Pirates in this fixture being their current top goalscorer with eight goals while Arrows have been struggling currently sitting in 10th place with 24 points after 20 games.
Few kilometers away, on form Sundowns will be battling stubborn AmaZulu. Downs cannot afford to drop points at this stage as they are currently three points behind Pirates who have a game behind. DStv Diski Challenge leading goalscorer Bennet Mokoena will be expected to continue with his goalscoring form.
On Sunday, defending champions Kaizer Chiefs might be out of the title race as they currently sitting in sixth place with 29 points after 20 games. Amakhosi are 19 behind league leaders Pirates, but this Sunday’s clash against Durban City will be more about redeeming themselves as they have gone six games without a win.
Dark horses Siwelele FC will close off this weekend against Orbit College. The green and white have punched above their weight already in their first season in DDC as they currently sitting in third place with 42 points after 21 games, six points behind Buccaneers.
