Motaung Jr – What We Have To Learn From Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has made a candid admission about their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates as pressure continues to mount on the club.

Amakhosi have come under heavy criticism in recent weeks, with both the coaching staff and management questioned after four consecutive defeats in all competitions.

The criticism intensified after Chiefs suffered a 3–0 loss to Pirates in the Soweto Derby and then failed to respond, going down 1–0 away to Richards Bay FC.

Their performances in both matches were widely criticised for lacking urgency and a clear desire to win.

Motaung Jr. admitted the team has fallen short in several important matches and acknowledged that supporters’ frustration is understandable.

He added that as they are compared with Pirates, they must learn from their rivals’ progress, with the Buccaneers currently challenging for the league title and already having secured two trophies this season.

“We have lost very key games at this moment in time,” said Motaung Jr on MSW.

“If you look…people can try and compare to say Pirates have lost one less game. It’s not about that, they are on a different journey, we have a lot to learn from the journey that they have taken on.

“They started the season on not one of the best foot, fought back to be able to take two trophies, to be able to put that performance even against us.

“We have a lot of work [to do]. But what I can assure you is we’re making sure that we’re getting to the bottom of it.”
