Were Downs ‘Robbed’ Of Legit Goal Against Arrows? Hlungwani Responds

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani has delivered a verdict that Mamelodi Sundowns‘ third goal against Golden Arrows should have been allowed to stand.

“The Principal” is of the notion that the Brazilians were denied a legitimate goal which should have been allowed as there was no offside offence.

This comes after Nuno Santos’s effort from outside the box found Iqraam Rayners who seemed in line with an Arrows defender.

The Bafana Bafana marksman was however adjudged to have been offside even though replay showed that he had been played onside by the opposition defender.

“Nuno scored a goal and here we want to educate you,” he said on Soccerzone.

“We judge offside the moment the ball is played not at the moment the player receives the ball.

“The moment Nuno takes a shot there; you can see the assistant referee does not flag. It means he’s not sure [he was not in line].

“There was no offside at all.

“We can see [Iqraam] Rayners is in an onside position, so this is where we judge offside.

“But when he [Rayners] receives the ball, he looks like he’s in an offside position.

“So, we don’t judge offside at the moment Rayners receives the ball.

“So, incorrect decision to give offside. There’s no offside.”
