Cape Town City remained in third place after playing out to a pulsating 2-2 draw with table-toppers Milford FC on a hot afternoon at Athlone Stadium.
The battle for the top spot kicked off on a scorching hot afternoon at Athlone Stadium in the highly anticipated Motsepe Foundation Championship clash.
CT City dominated the first few minutes and were rewarded in the sixth minute with a lovely curler from Emile Witbooi, 1-0.
The Citizens created numerous opportunities but couldn’t take their chances. With seconds before the halftime whistle, Milford equalized through Bulelani Sigomoshe.
Halftime score: 1-1. In the second half, City looked to get the second goal as quickly as they could, but it was Milford that found the back of the net in the 55th minute through Cheswyn Philander after a brilliant free kick.
A great return for the Stellenbosch FC striker who is on loan at Milford FC. The visitors took the lead for the first time in this game.
CT City pushed for the equalizer. In the 62nd minute, Jaedin Rhodes leveled matters with a great shot from outside the box, beating Siphamandla Hleza’s hands, 2-2.
Milford nearly took the lead again but they were denied by the crossbar after a great header by Sifiso Mdluli; the scoreline remained 2-2 with 20 minutes remaining.
The draw sees CT City remaining in third place meanwhile, Milford return to the top of the table.
