Durban City interim coach Pitso Dladla has opened up on why the team has managed to stay competitive despite several coaching changes since the start of the season.
The KwaZulu-Natal outfit earned promotion to the top flight after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season under Simo Dladla.
However, Simo did not lead the side in the new campaign as the club parted ways with him before the season began and appointed four-time league winning coach Gavin Hunt.
Ernst Middendorp joined as Technical Director but left after three months.
Hunt then guided the team to a strong start in the top division before being sacked in December, with Sinethemba Badela taking over while Middendorp returned to the same role.
Badela’s tenure was short-lived, as he was dismissed in February after just three matches, while Middendorp also departed again after two months back at the club.
Dladla has since stepped in as interim coach and has overseen an impressive run of form, with the team winning four and drawing one of their last five matches, including reaching the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.
“In terms of changes, I wouldn’t say much about that. I think what the team maybe gets right is the work that it does behind the scenes because the structures enable what you see on a match-day,” said Dladla.
“If you look at the structure of the management, you look at the different components.
“There are the conditioning guys, the performance department, the medical team and the composition of the players. We’ve spoken about the mixture of experience and the players coming from lower divisions.
“I think all that comes into play in this kind of technical team that we have. It’s more about the structure that has been created by the chairman and the board of directors. I think it’s helping us.”
