Stade Malien head coach Mauril Njoya has issued a stern warning to Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the second leg of their CAF Champions League quarter-final clash.

The Malian outfit suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to the Brazilians on Friday night at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, where goals from Khuliso Mudau, Brayan Leon and Iqraam Rayners put the South African giants firmly in control of the tie.

Despite the disappointing result, Njoya insists his side has not given up hope. The two teams will face off again in the return leg next Sunday, 22 March, with Stade Malien hosting Bafana Ba Style and aiming to produce a strong comeback on home soil.

Njoya admitted it was simply a bad day at the office for his team, but he remains confident that they can respond with a much better performance.

The coach believes his players are capable of winning the second leg 3-0 to level the aggregate score and potentially force the contest into a dramatic penalty shootout.

“I think I have given more points to Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said. It’s not because of their experience or they were stronger than us, I think that, it’s football it can happen.

“We think the next match will not be the same like this. We are going to win the match [at home], even 3-0. We can even to go to the penalty kicks, I don’t know but we have to score many goals.”
