Mamelodi Sundowns legend Teko Modise has attributed his former side’s dominance to individual brilliance and a standardised system put in place.

The Brazilians thrashed Stade De Malien 3-0 in their CAF Champions League quarterfinal clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday to take a giant leap towards qualifying for the last four.

Khuliso Mudau, Brayan Léon and Iqraam Rayners recorded their names on the scoresheet, and ‘The General’ reckons that the Betway Premiership champions bear too much quality on the individual and collective front.

“It’s difficult. Cause I also went the other way and tried to play against Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said on The Pitchside Podcast.

“Because even if you can have an idea as to and what is it that they gonna do, just the quality is too much.

“And once you force them to tap into their own qualities individually, they’ll still kill you because Mamelodi Sundowns will have those type of moments where individual brilliance will come through.

“But yet again it’s because it’s a system that has been drilled within the club itself.

“It’s very difficult to stop it because you only practice it maybe three times in a week cause you’re going to play Mamelodi Sundowns in that period.

“So, when Mamelodi Sundowns are doing the same thing over and over again, and systems because repetitive.

“So, it’s difficult to stop because you only have one week to prepare against Mamelodi Sundowns.”
