Cardoso On Pirates Fans Cheering For Gallants

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says he has noted with interest how Orlando Pirates supporters were cheering for the opposition against his side in midweek.

Sundowns thrashed Marumo Gallants 3-1 in the league in the capital city to reclaim top spot on the league standings with 50 points and opened a two-point gap against closest chasers Pirates with both sides having played 21 matches.

With the league title race looking like a two-horse challenge between the defending champions and the Buccaneers, a positive result for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa would have made things different for Pirates.

Cardoso said the idea of fans from another team cheering on a team that’s not even theirs is one of the things he’s learning in South African football.

The coach says it represents a good sporting spirit in the country however emphasized that his side will fight against anything and anyone in the way of their objectives.

“You saw that today we had fans from Pirates cheering [for Gallants] trying to support here the team,” said Cardoso.

“We are going to fight everything and everyone. It’s normal, it’s even beautiful.

“I said that South Africa is giving me so many experiences that I had never lived and this is another one.

“But it’s normal and it shows sports spirit from people that can and this is also beautiful to live.”
