The former league-winning coach has often come under criticism for what some believe are outdated methods, though he has also come out strong the previous weekend about the over reliance of technology in coaching.
Speaking to iDiski Times senior journalist Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 246, the former Cape Town City and AmaZulu coach said the presence of coaches like Hunt is also good for emerging coaches.
“Coach Gavin Hunt is an elephant of the game,” McCarthy told iDiski Times.
“They do not go extinct. He’s young at heart and players love playing for him.”
