Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe has given his reasons why he believes defender Thabang Matuludi can secure a place in Bafana Bafana‘s final World Cup squad.
Matuludi, 27, has been an integral part of City’s squad in the last two seasons though he missed Rise and Shine’s last match, the 1-0 loss to AmaZulu in the league this past weekend due to suspension.

He has so far recorded two goals as his side sits in seventh spot on the Betway Premiership table with 29 points in 21 matches.
Matuludi made his Bafana debut last December in the friendly against Ghana before the 2025 AFCON tournament.
However, the City vice-captain has also made the final cut of the squad currently in camp preparing for the friendlies against Panama. The matches are part of Bafana’s World Cup preparations.
Mohafe said his player’s work rate and behaviour should make a good case for him to be in the final traveling party.
“The boy is humble and the boy is working hard,” said Mohafe.
“And I’m still saying again that according to my perception he is the second-best right-back and I’m not surprised that the national team coach, coach [Hugo] Broos is continuously selecting him for the preliminary and for the national duty.
“He’s doing well and his behaviour is tops and I thank him for being this focused.
“And he if can be focused like this and concentrate more, I think he will go to the World Cup.”
