Bafana Bafana captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams believes the rise of in-form goalkeepers in South African football has given head coach Hugo Broos a welcome selection dilemma ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
Williams was responding to questions about new call-up Renaldo Leaner, who joined the squad after Sipho Chaine was left out.

The skipper noted that the country no longer faces a shortage of quality goalkeepers, a concern that had been raised in previous years.
He added that the growing competition is pushing those in the national team to constantly raise their standards.
“There’s so many goalkeepers that are doing extremely well in the league and a lot of people have been complaining about the shortage of goalkeepers in South Africa,” said Williams.
“But I don’t think it’s the case and now there’s so many for the coach to choose from, that people, you know, there’s always question marks whereas a few months ago people were saying there’s a shortage [of goalkeepers].
“So, it’s a good headache to have and it keeps us all on our toes. We know three months’ time there’s a big World Cup and there’s probably five or six goalkeepers that are doing extremely well.
“So, we need to keep going, keep pushing the goalkeepers.”
