Banyana Star Crowned Champion In Europe

Banyana Banyana attacking midfielder Linda Motlhalo won the Sky Sports Cup in Scotland with Glasgow City on Sunday at Fir Park.

Motlhalo played 90 minutes as her side defeated Rangers 2-1 in the final, a cup Rangers had dominated and won for the last four years.

It was Glasgow’s first league cup in 11 years while it was Motlhalo’s first domestic cup since she returned to the club last year.

The Banyana star had endured a dry spell at Racing Louisville in America before returning to Scotland where she won the championship in 2023.

City is still in it to win a treble this campaign as they are in the semi-finals of the Scottish Women’s Cup and the league where they currently occupy first place with 46 points in 18 outings, five points from nearest chasers Rangers from the same number of games.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old has also been named in Banyana’s squad to face Algeria in the April international friendlies.

The matches are part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament in Morocco which is also a FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier.

Banyana are in Group B with Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Tanzania at the continental event.
