Mamelodi Sundowns legend Teko Modise believes Sipho Mbule remains a player with immense untapped ability, describing him as someone who is still “bubbling under potential” and yet to fully reach the heights expected of him.
Over the years, Mbule’s career has been a mixture of praise and criticism, with much of it stemming from his off-field challenges, which at times have impacted his performances on the pitch.

This season, following his move to Orlando Pirates from Mamelodi Sundowns, there were clear signs that Mbule was beginning to rediscover his form and rebuild momentum in his career.
However, inconsistency and an injury setback have somewhat derailed him.
Modise spoke highly of the SuperSport United academy graduate, insisting that his talent is undeniable and that he has the quality to compete for major individual honours such as the Footballer of the Season award.
However, Modise expressed concern that Mbule has spent too long on the brink of reaching his potential without truly breaking through.
“Masterchef is a great, great talent, the unfortunate part is, for me, it feels like he’s been bubbling under for so long,” said Modise on iDiski Dine Podcast.
“At some point, Sipho should be a Footballer of the Year because of his quality, and nobody can do it for him but himself.
“And sometimes, for us to grow, it takes something bad to happen, before you can realise…but Masterchef is still bubbling under the potential.
“I see myself a lot in that guy also, in terms of the IQ of the game.”
