Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have officially unveiled their women’s side in Ekuehuleni on Wednesday.
The team will play in South Africa’s women’s football second tier league, the SASOL league which is also a promotional league to the Hollywoodbets Super League.

This makes them the fourth Betway Premiership side to have a women’s side after Mamelodi Sundowns, TS Galaxy and Stellenbosch FC.
“The establishment of the Kaizer Chiefs Ladies team represents a clear commitment from the Club to invest in the women’s game, to create meaningful opportunities for players, and to contribute to the continued growth of football in the country,” the club stated.
“This follows a deliberate and structured journey built over several years, in collaboration with key partners in the women’s football space.
“Kaizer Chiefs express their sincere appreciation to Gauteng-based club, Springs Home Sweepers for their role in shaping this project and for the years of work invested in developing women’s football.
“The Club extends their gratitude to Joseph Mkhonza, the former Kaizer Chiefs player and respected coach, for his longstanding contribution to the growth of the women’s game in South Africa. Their influence and commitment have played an important part in laying the foundation on which this team now stands.
“Kaizer Chiefs further acknowledge the role of the South African Football Association in supporting and welcoming the Club into the women’s football structures. The Club values its relationship with SAFA, including its involvement in the Gauteng Development League, and appreciates the continued collaboration in strengthening football pathways in the country.”
The new Kaizer Chiefs Ladies squad comprises of 24 players – a mixture of youth and experience with the notable figure in Mamello Makhabane amongst them.
Makhabane a Banyana Banyana centurion was previously on the books of TS Galaxy Queens in the Super League.
The bench will be led by former JVW FC Assistant coach Unathi Mabena, who holds a UEFA B License and has also worked with the national junior teams.
Chiefs also announced the two home grounds the ladies will use, the Kaizer Chiefs village and Kwa Thema Stadium.
The club said the milestone isn’t just about being in the league but also honoring years of work by coaches like Joseph Mkhonza – a former coach and owner of Springs Home Sweepers which is the base of the Chiefs side.
