Bafana Bafana have found out who their final Group A opponents at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be after the conclusion of the European playoffs on Tuesday night.
Czech Republic and Denmark were battling each other after both advanced to the final UEFA playoffs with wins last week, with Czechia booking their spot after winning 3-1 on penalties.
Czechia had to come from two goals down to beat Ireland on penalties last week, while Denmark eased 4-0 passed North Macedonia.
On Tuesday, the game between the two ended 2-2 after extra-time. Pavel Sulc had opened the scoring for the home side after just three minutes but Joachim Andersen drew level after 72 minutes.
Ladislav Krejci then gave the hosts the lead again in the 100th minute but Kasper Hogh’s equalizer forced penalties.
However, Denmark showed their nerves and missed three spot-kicks, which saw Czechia progress to the World Cup for the first time in 20 years.
Czechia are the third team in Bafana’s World Cup group, and will face Hugo Broos’ men in the second round of fixtures. Bafana kick off their tournament against hosts Mexico, before facing Czechia and rounding out the group stages against South Korea.
