Kaizer Chiefs chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung Snr says launching a women’s team is a proud moment for the side which reflects their commitment to growing the game.
Amakhosi officially launched and unveiled the Kaizer Chiefs Ladies side in Ekurhuleni on Tuesday, becoming the fourth Betway Premiership side to enter the women’s football competitive space though Chiefs will be competing in Gauteng’s Sasol League.
Mamelodi Sundowns, TS Galaxy and recently Stellenbosch FC have women’s clubs in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
The 24-member squad will be led by Unathi Mabena while using the Chiefs Village and KwaThema Stadium as their home grounds for the 2026 Sasol League season.
In a statement on the club’s website, Motaung was quoted saying Chiefs understand the responsibility they have in football in the country and towards the elevation of the women’s game.
“This is a proud moment for Kaizer Chiefs, ” said the chairman to Chiefs media.
“As a Club, we understand the responsibility we carry within South African football, and this step reflects our commitment to growing the game in a meaningful way.
“Women’s football is an important part of the future, and we are committed to being part of that journey.
“When you build something of this nature, you must think beyond the present moment. You must consider the generations that will follow and the responsibility that comes with that.
“Kaizer Chiefs Ladies is part of a broader vision to ensure that the game continues to elevate, to include more people, and to stand stronger in the years ahead.”
