Mbokazi Breaks Silence On Maiden Bafana Thunderbolt

Bafana Bafana centre-back Mbekezeli Mbokazi has broken his surprising silence that he doesn’t practice long-range goals saying it just happens.

Mbokazi started in Bafana Bafana ‘s 2-1 loss to Panama in Cape Town, scoring the consolation with a thumping strike from range.

The Chicago Fire defender said he doesn’t practice but when a chance presents itself, he scores.

“It just happens that I hit the net even in training,” said Mbokazi on SABC TV.

“I won’t say I practice such goals, but when things are aligned, I’m able to score.”

The 20-year-old also expressed joy at reuniting with the team having last played with his national teammates at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco. The former Orlando Pirates man also said Tuesday’s result shouldn’t demoralize Bafana.

He also spoke about the experience he’s gaining in the MLS saying he hopes he can use it to help Bafana at the upcoming World Cup.

“I’m happy to be back playing with the guys,” added Mbokazi.

“I haven’t played with them in a while, and I’m encouraged to keep on working hard while I still have the chance to play with them.

“I think we played very well working together helped us. Today’s defeat does not mean we are bad or anything. We will continue to work together and push. The loss today will motivate us to not lose our upcoming matches.

“The experience I’m getting that side in the games I have played so far maybe I’ll be able to help the team with it when we go to the World Cup. I can’t say exactly how, but it might help me help the team.”
